Born in Haiti, Dr. Salomon-Fernandez and her family immigrated to the United States when she was 12 years old and settled in Boston. In addition to English, Yves is fluent in Spanish, French, and Haitian Creole. A graduate of the prestigious Boston Latin School, Dr. Salomon-Fernandez earned her Ph.D. from Boston College, her Master’s degree from the London School of Economics, her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston. She also holds a Certificate from the University of Oxford in England.
Dr. Salomon-Fernandez is passionate about ensuring that quality affordable higher education and vocational/technical training remain as pathways for social mobility for the working and middle classes. Yves sees Cumberland County College as more than an institution that awards degrees and credentials, but as a catalyst for progress and for helping the county reach its full social and economic potential. Working with her colleagues and the broader community, she hopes to build upon the College’s 50 years of success.
