The Vineland Rotary Club established the Edward F. Duffy Memorial Scholarship to honor the memory of respected attorney, municipal court judge and long time Rotarian, Edward F. Duffy. His family and friends will continue to fund it in his honor.
During his legal career he served as a municipal solicitor, municipal prosecutor, mediator, arbitrator, labor negotiator and court appointed guardian. His appointments as a Municipal Court Judge and Central Judicial Prosecuting Judge for Cumberland County were the culmination of his distinguished career and life in the law.
Ed was an adjunct faculty member in the 1980’s at Cumberland County College teaching Paralegal Studies. He also served on the District Ethics Committee (Supreme Court of NJ), and was a member of the Cumberland County Bar Association, serving one year as president.
His dedication to community service was truly exemplary. A Rotarian since 1991, Ed believed in and lived by the Club’s motto “service above self”. He was the only Rotarian in the Club’s 100 year history to have served as President three times. His other community involvement included his active and enthusiastic voluntary service to the Vineland Regional Dance Company, Habitat for Humanity, and Boy Scout Troop 36.
The Edward F. Duffy Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a second year Rowan College South Jersey student, who plans to pursue a career in Law or Para-Legal studies and must maintain a 2.7 GPA or higher.
