Vineland NJ – Seventeen of the Vineland area’s finest students were the honored recipients of $22,500 in scholarships at the Rotary Club of Vineland’s Annual Scholarship and Recognition event on Tuesday, June 5, 2018. The ceremony, held at Merighi’s Savoy Inn, included the presentation of 14 different scholarship categories, many named in honor of long-time Rotarians who dedicated themselves to furthering the dreams of area students.

“The Vineland Rotary Club’s Scholarship Dinner was the highlight of this Rotary year,” said Ken Dondero, President, Rotary Club of Vineland, whose term ends later this month. “Awarding scholarships to area students is one of the longest-running community service activities carried out by our club. And the students who received these scholarships were more impressive than ever this year. I couldn’t be more proud of our club’s track record for engaging with the youth in our community,” added Dondero, referring to the Vineland Rotary Club’s numerous youth outreach programs. Those programs also include guiding school-age Interact Club members and college-age Rotaract Club members to carry out service projects, running the Challenger League for physically challenged kids to be able to play baseball, distributing dictionaries to third graders in our community, and sending 12 high school students to participate in the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program held at Stockton University for a week each summer.

Dondero also recognized the outstanding work of Vineland Rotary’s Scholarship committee, headed up by Kathy Mascio (who also emceed the event) and including Brian Rehm, Jerry Batt, Joseph Delgado, Jay Einstein, Bill Jannarone, Ed Morvay, Susanna Philippoussis, Susan Sauro, Shery Soutiere and Renuka Thakur.
